Beer steins sold by The Beer Stein Shop are guaranteed to be Handmade and Hand Painted completely in Germany by highly skilled potters using only the high quality clay from the Westerwalt region of Germany . King-Werks, Zoller & Born and TheWalt 1893 (Manufactered By King-Werks), are the only manufacturers still manufacturing completely in Germany.
Although most steins are used more in Bavarian part of Germany the clay to produce them comes from the Westerwald region of Germany. This region is renowned for its’ high quality and substantial clay deposits. This is why the remaining manufacturers that still produce authentic German beer steins are located there.
One of these factories is King-Werkswhich not only produces its own line but in January 2011 through agreement with Albert Thewaltbegan producing Thewalt designs under the name “Thewalt 1893”. They are known for production of Souvenir Relief, Crest, Specialty Steins, and Limited Edition.Their factory is located in a small village called Hoehr-Grenzhausen.
If you travel another 2 miles to another village of Hillscheid you will find Zoller and Born which maintains the same high quality standard of King. Detailed relief steins are the specialty of Zoller and Born.
There are many on-line retailers that advertise theirs as German but in fact they come from countries such as Brazil or China. They may look nice but the clay used to make them is inferior to that which comes from the Westerwald region of Germany. That is why what we sell at The Beer Stein Shop are made in the authentic way by the highly skilled potters that have been practicing their trade for years that can only be done in Germany.
Always ask the retailer you are purchasing from who manufacturered theirs if the manufacturer is not listed on their site. If they won’t tell you then purchase from someone that is not being deceptive and will gladly tell you so that you know they are selling authentic German steins.
Do You Really Use the Steins for Beer?
Well some people do but most like my wife use them for decoration. The steins we have sitting around our house have never had a drop of beer in them or any liquid for that matter.
Look at the soaps and movies closely and you might see steins in the background. They are becoming highly popular as decorative items.
